LEO Academy Trust gave every pupil and every member of staff access to a Chromebook. The published impact report shows that 1:1 works best when devices are supported by strategy, staff confidence, parent communication and operational planning.

Queen Elizabeth's School started with a five-year target, then accelerated the programme after strategy work, evaluation, staff feedback, parent communication and the first successful deployment.

Sep 2022Joined a 1:1 support programme with a target to be fully 1:1 by September 2027.
Nov-Dec 2022Evaluation and strategy workshops shaped the digital strategy document and programme plan.
Feb-Mar 2023A sustainable financial model was identified and communicated with parents.
Sep 2023Devices arrived and were deployed to Year 7, with further staff training arranged.
Jan 2024The school chose to accelerate the rollout to all students by May 2025, two years earlier than planned.
Feb 2025Further staff support helped the school keep building effective classroom use after deployment.

Primary 1:1 pilot

A practical primary school rollout built around teaching, access and support.

Windmill Primary began with a focused device pilot before expanding use across year groups. The project showed the value of planning the classroom model, device management, staff support and infrastructure before scaling further.

What changed

Learning routines became more consistent.

The school used managed devices to support Microsoft Teams, OneNote, accessibility tools and classroom workflows. The project also highlighted the need to check wireless coverage, device charging, classroom routines and teacher confidence before wider rollout.

  • Teams and OneNote supported class materials, collaboration and feedback.
  • Immersive Reader and Dictate helped pupils access and produce work more independently.
